Reclaiming My Voice: The Journey Back to Creativity
For as long as I can remember, creativity has been at the core of who I am. Writing, performing, and expressing myself through words have always been my way of making sense of the world. But life has a way of shifting priorities, and over time, I found myself giving more to my responsibilities than to my creative self.
Lately, I’ve been working on making time for my creativity again—outlining, going back to the basics, and relearning the rhythm of my own voice. As a writer, listening to other great writers is essential. For poetry, it’s not just about reading; it’s about hearing it—watching performances, feeling the cadence, immersing myself in the energy of spoken word.
I discovered my voice a long time ago, but stepping back into it has been a challenge. Life’s demands—being a mother of two, a wife, and balancing work—have made it difficult to carve out time just for me. It’s a constant juggling act, trying to meet the needs of my family while also nurturing the part of myself that creates, that dreams, that speaks in ways only writing allows.
But this year, I am being intentional. I am making space for my voice again. I am choosing to write, to perform, to create—not just when I can fit it in, but because it is a necessary part of who I am. Getting back to myself hasn’t been easy, but it has been worth it.
For anyone who feels like they’ve lost touch with their creativity, I see you. I know what it’s like to put everything else first. But I also know that our voices matter. Our stories deserve to be told. And no matter how long it’s been, we can always find our way back.
Have you ever felt like life pulled you away from your creativity? How did you find your way back—or are you still searching? Let’s talk about it in the comments. I’d love to hear your story. And if this post resonated with you, share it with someone who might need a reminder that their voice still matters.
